Not sure what to blog about, but I promised myself I do everything available on this site at least once, so... Today's blog is Bored Games.
What to do with those old board games in the closet, to make them more interesting to play:
Monopoly
The Setup:
Ignore the money, too many rules just get in the way. Start by dealing out the property cards in a random manner to each player. Roll to see who goes 1st, and start playing.
Game Play:
Roll your dice, move your piece, see where you land. Districts held by multiple people are safe (for now), pleasant places, pass dice to the next player.
If a player owns all streets of a color, they can "Re Zone" that district. It becomes their entertainment zone. If anyone else lands on it, then they have to "work" in the owners establishments until they roll their way out on their turn. The job they do is up to the owner.
Possible Employment:
Perhaps its a topless bar: Player must serve the rest of the players drinks topless until their turn comes back around.
Perhaps its a strip club, with a bachelorette party in full swing, and the owner is short on chairs? Player offers his body up as a chair to any of the female players.
Perhaps its a strip club, and the owner is short on dancers, player must provide lap dances to teh other players until her/his turn comes back around.
The player could try to buy his/her way out of service, by offering property? clothes?
Landing on a Railroad: Owner of the railroad gives player a ride to any street address of the railroad owner's choice, player finishes turn their.
Landing on Luxury & Income Tax: Player must concede 1 property. Other players request which property they want, and the player gets to choose who they will give property to.
Electric Company and Waterworks: Hmm... I going to stay away from the obvious. Not sure what to do, any ideas?
Jail: Tons of possibilities (you have to bribe the guard by loosing a piece of clothing? Then again, there are bars, perhaps a little light bondage until the player rolls out? Perhaps the gaurds strip the player for his/her own safety?)
Passing GO: Player takes 1 card from another player of their choice.
Once a district is re-zoned, the zoning remains, even if another player takes control of 1 of the properties. Initially, the goal should be to get properties zoned, so trading cards should be allowed. Once a sufficient portion of the board has been re-zoned, players may focus on gaining control of more property, or loosing their properties (depending on their tastes). The location can be whatever the owner wants, and can change from round to round (no reason why the owner cant change up their establishments).
Also, depending on the nature of the players, the "speed" of play could be controlled. Perhaps the initial re-zoning limits behavior in the establishment, but as the notoriety of the district increases (measured by the # of "workers" who have landed there). A house could be added, marking new services offered, and finally a hotel (where anything goes).
While a player is "working" off their stay at a location, service extends until the beginning of their next turn (assuming they roll off the district). They are in the service of the owner, but the other players can be considered "patrons". If 2 players are working in the same district, no reason not to make them "work together". This could lead to confusing situations, where every player is "working" for someone, and has someone "working" for them. Creative resolutions may be in order.
No idea what to do with chance and community chest, Too many rules just get in the way of the fun, but I'm sure there are plenty of possibilities.

Also, for the less creative players (not I problem I have, but there are those who get nervous when thinking up something for others to do), sex dice, or a pre-generated list of inspirations might be good. Also, think outside the box. Not every street needs to be a strip club or brothel:
: worker gives other players shoulder massages until their turn comes back around.
Hair Dresser, braid someone's hair
Doctor's Office? Supermarket? Dress Store? Pet Shop?
Post any creative ideas you think of, maybe if one of the adventurous groups on this site plays the game, they will honor us with descriptions (videos?) of their favorite moments.
