Travel Restrictions - United States
Travel Restrictions - United States Real post in first comment. |

With what I've been hearing about various countries closing their borders, restricting people entering or exiting, or discouraging/disallowing gatherings of various sizes, I've begun to wonder if the United States will make any attempt to restrict or prohibit interstate travel. What about intercity travel? With the current administration, I can see that being a very real possibility. What do you think? Will we American citizens be forced to stay within our states, our cities, our dwellings?

the current administration has made lots of wrong moves and told outright lies so far. I don't expect them to improve their "response" any time soon. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

sorry but "citizenship" has been made irrelevant - at this point, if youre NOT a victim, youre still a POTENTIAL victim, maybe even an EVENTUAL victim. lets face it - its everywhere, and having said that, where it will pop up near you tomorrow will STILL surprise you. if chancellor trump didnt fire the entire white house pandemic response team in 2018 WITHOUT REPLACING THEM , we would have been MUCH MORE ready for this two months ago when it began and we possibly wouldnt BE considering such seemingly draconian but now necessary measures. our bed was made FOR us, unfortunately, and now that it is what it is, we have to do what needs to be done. because of the unnecessary two-month delay, things WILL get worse before they get better and we have to act accordingly. and do so TOGETHER but, it still might get even MORE worse if people believe our bonehead-in-chief saying how wonderful he is and how everythings going perfectly. yes, stay safe - be prepared to sequester for 30 days IF called for, and dont be caught by surprise when it happens. when everything closes, so will all the stores (except maybe the 7-11s ) BUT that DOESNT mean a YEARS SUPPLY of anything and everything. "well only get through this if we work together. if we dont, none of us will"

Friday, the Department of Defense announced travel restrictions for service members, DOD civilians, and their families. Officials say the restrictions ban all domestic travel, including Permanent Change of Station and Temporary Duty.

QUOTING: FresnoWoman replies on 3/16/2020 2:13 pm: I'm not panicking about anything, nor have I taken part in the recent shopping frenzy. No hoarding going on here. However, I'm concerned about further erosion of our rights as citizens under the Trump regime. So that made me curious about whether we'll lose our right to move about freely. Thing is, any *temporary* restriction under martial law...is it really going to be temporary after all? If I get COVID-19 myself, I think my chances of beating it would be decent. I'd rather get it now, recover, and hopefully be immune to it AND, more importantly, no longer risk carrying it to others who are more vulnerable to it than I am. Since it's a novel coronavirus, those aspects are still being studied, but I am hoping that we, as a population, will be able to acquire immunity to it. thanx for reading my entry and your thoughtful response. you make many good points. as i stated above, trump could have started fighting this two months ago if he hadnt fired the entire white house pandemic response team two years ago WITHOUT REPLACING THEM! now, after giving the virus a two months head-start, all he cares about is saying and doing whatever he thinks will get him re-elected. and he calls it a perfect response, and his minions still eat it up. keep your insightful voice-of-reason blogs coming. were all in this together "well only get through this if we work together. if we dont, none of us will"

Right now, according to various news sources, the Bay Area shelter-in-place order is the most restrictive order within the United States. I'll be watching to see if LA county and even Fresno county will follow suit. Even the libraries here are having trouble keeping all their branches open at this point due to the pandemic, although only 2 known cases (so far) in this county. I have friends in the affected Bay Area counties so I'll be in touch with them by text and by S.k.y.p.e to see how they're doing.

I have banned pytimes for insulting me in his second comment here. Unfortunately, that caused his first comment to disappear. If you disagree with me or my politics, you'll have to be civil about it and refrain from insults and inflammatory language. Insulting me or making assumptions about me won't change my mind.

Insulting me or making assumptions about me won't change my mind. ah, who are we kidding, they probably still wouldnt. everyone else should have no issues with respecting your opinions even if while disagreeing with them. thats the way america USED TO work. at least until the 1850s, then guess what happened in the 1860s? and yet, there are many who seem hell-bent to repeat that going into 2020. only this time, it wont be as simple as north-v-south, itll be neighbor-v-neighbor. and insults rather than discussion is a one-way road in that direction. kudos to you for making a stand. In my country - Greece - travel was restricted to one's municipality for a little over two months, and restricted to one's province for longer than that. Several villages and towns were in total quarantine. Shelter-in-place in our case was limited to one's immediate neighborhood, and it was tough to accept on a psychological level. It didn't become a politicized issue, most didn't see it as a restriction on our civil rights, as the immediate threat to human life took precedence. And believe me we do have a strong cultural/historical resistance to oppressive authority, from 1770's-1821 up to the 1970's. We also have a more recent experience with war, and that's one explanation that were aware certain sacrifices needed to be accepted, to protect ourselves from the external threat.
