first light
steel blue water
rimmed by the dark purple shore in the distance

interlacing of purple and orange layers of cloud and sky
soon becoming lavender and tangerine

mare’s tails slanting in from the southwest
an impression of a fossilized meteor shower

single giant trees stand in silhouette above the others
like sentries along Hadrian’s wall

in the far east the sun continues to intensify
and the sense of promise for the upcoming day grows with it

there is a glow inside
that sends hope and excitement to every extremity

to enjoy another day in such a place
to live with the gift of peace and beauty

the joy of first light washes over my shore
