Why Such Standards?

Is it me or has anyone else noticed the increase in "standard" members? Is it a ploy for us to add on the extra fee to give these non-members the opportunity to be in contact with us?
I took a break and was wondering what took place in the interim.
Has the value of membership dropped? I did leave for a few months so maybe I am answering my own question.
The site has provided plenty of connections and great memories facilitated by my membership on the site.

You can't expand your circle and get into the party if the gate is locked and access is not granted.

I hope they are real and are testing the water before they dive in- the water is fine, as well as most of the people on here!
